Seriously, WTF!?!?!?

I posted this on my facebook wall today. Brace yourselves because I'm about to get bitchy:
"Melissa Cann made this video about her sister, Maureen, who was tragically murdered by the Long Island Serial Killer.  Love
The killer still hasn't been caught. Maureen was a sex worker, and also much more. Our jobs do not define us. It's heartbreaking that when sex workers are brutally murdered, we rarely hear about it. The women killed were daughters, friends, mothers, and partners of people just like you and I. They deserve respect, just like any other murder victim.
There is a donation page, http://www.everribbon.com/stunts4justice, where the family's are collecting donations to go towards the reward for anyone who has valuable information on the killer's identity. I donated, and so did my mother (and she's unemployed!) Why haven't you? Seriously, I can't believe that out of the 591 facebook friends I have, no one has contributed. Sorry to shame you all, but sometimes we need to be ashamed."
Yeah, I know that was a bitchy post, but I'm sort of known for being a bitch. Seriously though, I see so many other fundraisers that bring in the big bucks- why? Because they're for victims that society "favors." I GUARANTEE if these murder victims were young children, nuns, or celebrities, the donations would be POURING in! But, they were prostitutes. So, it's likely that you've never even heard about this case, and that's really sad. Please take a minute to think about what it would be like to be the sister, mother, or daughter of one of these young women.
So, what I'm trying to say it, get off your lazy butts and donate, even $10. $5. Anything. Most of us have that to donate, and if you don't, then do your part to pass the link along to others that can donate. Raise awareness! I hate to say this, but I am disappointed that I have almost 600 facebook friends, and none of them donated. I tweeted this to many other sex worker advocates, and none of them donated or retweeted. The only person that did retweet was Tera Patrick, a famous porn stay with 30,000 follows. That's a woman with a good heart.
Watch that 3 minute video clip titled "Love," and you will realize why it's so sad that no one seems to be listening. I think about the people that I love most in my life, and if they were murdered, I would be shattered. Their occupations wouldn't have a single fucking thing to do with anything.
For the record- I never met any of the victims. I've never even met the sister, Melissa Cann, although I have corresponded with her on several occasions. Even though I don't have any personal ties to the women who were murdered, I am a woman, and a sex worker advocate and I believe this tragedy needs to receive more attention than it has.
Please donate, or at least pass this on. If you had time to read this post, then you have time to donate a few bucks.
RIP
xoxo

  3. I just wanted you to know that when I get home from vacation I will donate $10. I purposefully left my credit card at home to resist temptation. Is it cool if I share this post on my FB? Sadly they are still a ways away from their goal.
